" When the Rooster Crowed ", written by Ahmad Tayy and illustrated by Mira Al Mir, is a children's book published by Asala Publishing House in Lebanon. Inspired by folklore, the story creatively explains the reason behind the rooster's well-known crowing sound.
The narrative follows a rooster who finds a grain of wheat while wandering through a field. He begins to trade it with various characters: first for a loaf of bread, then for onions and honey, and eventually for a buffalo. At the end of his journey, he trades the buffalo for a flute, which he swallows and cannot get out of his throat. From that moment on, he starts crowing with the familiar sound we associate with roosters.

كتاب «لمّا صاح الدّيك»، من تأليف أحمد طيّ ورسوم ميرا المير، هو عملٌ أدبيٌّ للأطفال، صادر عن «دار أصالة للنشر» في لبنان. يقدّم هذا الكتاب قصّةً مستوحاةً من التّراث الشّعبيّ، تشرح بطريقة خياليّة سبب صياح الدّيك بصوته العالي المعروف.
تدور أحداث القصّة حول ديكٍ يمرّ بحقلٍ ويأخذ حبّة قمحٍ، ثمّ يبدأ في مبادلتها مع الآخرين، حيث يبادل الحبّة برغيفٍ، ثمّ ببصلٍ وعسلٍ، وبجاموسةٍ. وفي النهاية، يبادل الجاموسة بنايٍ يبتلعه ولا يستطيع إخراجه من حلقه، ومنذ ذلك الحين، يبدأ في الصّياح بصوته المعروف.
الكتاب موجّهٌ للأطفال من عمر خمس سنواتٍ فما فوق، ويتميّز برسوماته الملوّنة الّتي تضفي حيويّةً على القصّة وتساعد الأطفال في فهم الأحداث بشكلٍ أفضل. كما يتميّز بأسلوبه السّلس والممتع الّذي يجذب الأطفال ويحفّز خيالهم.
